Patrick Murray Obituary

Patrick William "Pat" Murray

Feb 27, 1947 - Apr 25, 2024

Huron

Patrick William "Pat" Murray, 77, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 25, 2024, at his home in Huron.

Pat was born Feb. 27, 1947, in Tiffin, to Gaetta (Hoffert) and Roger Murray. He graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1965. He was drafted into U.S. Army in 1966 and trained as combat medic with the 9th Infantry Division. From 1966-1968, he worked in Army hospitals at Fort Riley, Kansas and Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and then was honorably discharged in 1972. He worked as a paramedic for Bowling Green Fire Department while attending Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where he also met future wife, Susan Romigh. Pat earned a bachelor's degree from BGSU in 1972 and master's degree in 1976. He and Sue married Nov. 10, 1973, in Canton. Pat was a long-time advocate for persons with disabilities and worked in special education administration until his retirement from Christie Lane School and Workshop in Norwalk in 1998. He returned to education administration part-time after his retirement, working for Huron City Schools and Ashland University.

Pat was a member of Sandusky Sailing Club for nearly 40 years, where he raced and periodically served on the Race Committee. He enjoyed all water-related activities, working on and cruising classic cars, going out to breakfast with friends, wildlife watching, and taking the long way home. He took immense pride in a freshly cut lawn and keeping his cars immaculate and was known to grill year-round. Pat loved Irish Setters and had several over the years. He also was proud of his Setter-themed antique collection. His storytelling, humor, and roaring laughter will be greatly missed by his family and friends, whom he also considered his family.

Pat is survived by his brother, Roger (Susan) Murray II of Tiffin; sister, Kathleen (Frank) Young of Tiffin; former wife, Sue Murray of Huron; and their children, Jen (Keith) Murray of Richmond, Texas, and Will of Berlin Heights.

He was preceded in death by his twin infant siblings, Thomas and Mary Murray; parents; and sisters, Elizabeth (Tom) Marco and Rena (Len) Goshe.

At Pat's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. However, a celebration of his life will be announced shortly.
