Peggy Lee Batz
Dec 26, 1946 - May 17, 2023
Naples, FLPeggy Lee "Peg" Siegel Batz, 76, of
Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She was a devoted mother, wife, and friend to many.
Peg enjoyed the numerous Air Force assignments she and her husband Bill served. Incirlik, Turkey was a favorite, affording the opportunity to learn about a special culture and cuisine. Shepherds Salad was a feature of her authentic Turkish meals. She also enjoyed re-creating the German dishes of her childhood, especially Christmas cookies and New Year pretzel bread. She was an engaging hostess, avid reader, and accomplished seamstress, winning an award for stitchery at the Alaska State Fair.
Peg was born Dec. 26, 1946, in Bayview, to Paul and Mary Louise Siegel. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1965 and became a medical records specialist in
Kansas City, Missouri. She worked at hospitals in Kansas City, Sandusky, and
Newark, Ohio, as well as those on many air force bases. The highlight of her community service career was serving as President of Newark City School Board.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William Hiram Batz of Naples; son, Brett (Anna) Batz and grandsons, Isaac, Liam, and Eli, all of
Plymouth, Minnesota; son, Jon (Thomas) Batz-Owings of
Arlington, Texas; sisters, Paula (Sam) Barone of Mount Vernon and Kay (Pam Reithmeier) Siegel of Monclova; and nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
She will be missed by a far-flung group of friends and acquaintances, as she seldom knew a stranger. Her Sandusky High School class motto was "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" (Emerson). She took those words to heart.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Mayflower United Church of Christ, 2900 County Barn Road,
Naples, Florida, 34112. All contributions will be used in disaster recovery and rebuilding efforts in southwest Florida. Please write "in memory of Peggy Batz" on the memo line of a check or indicate the same with electronic transfers.
Friends and family will gather for a remembrance later this summer.
