Phyllis Miller, 99 1/2 years old, of Sandusky, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at ProMedica Hospital in Toledo. Specialized treatment was needed as a result of a recent stroke the morning of Oct. 25, 2023.

She was born April 18, 1924, to Myra Catherine Pye and Paul Augustus McDougall.

Phyllis attended the Sandusky public school system, grades 1-11, and was a member of Sandusky A Cappella Choir, performing as second soprano. Her 12th year was at Norwalk High School, where she graduated in 1942 and was recognized by National Honor Society. She studied oil painting from 1979-1983 at BGSU Firelands College, "Life Long Learning Program."

Her early adult work involved singing with Phil Link's Orchestra in Norwalk, followed by moving to Port Clinton to work at Erie Proving Grounds as a secretary. After that, she moved back to Sandusky and was an assistant secretary in the stenographic department for Hinde and Dauch Paper Company. Later in life, she worked for Steinemann Hafner Insurance Company and retired at 60 years old.

Phyllis belonged to USA Organization during World War II as a way of contributing. She traveled to Port Clinton Armory and Camp Perry for dances with the soldiers. She had memberships in "Daughters of Isabella" Christian Women's Club since 1956 and in St. Mary's Funeral Choir, "The Sob Sisters," for many years.

Phyllis also was recognized for her volunteer work at Erie County, Sandusky Nursing Home. She also volunteered at Providence of Commons at the Independent Living #315, 5500 Providence Dr., Sandusky, and the Assisted Living #310, 5000 Providence Drive, Sandusky. This is where she lived and loved for the last two decades!

Phyllis is survived by her son, Phillip (Janice) Miller of Sandusky; daughter, Tricia (Rich) Kaman of Chagrin Falls; son, Randy (Dianna) Miller of Sandusky: daughter-in-law, Laura Miller Smith, widow of her son, Kenneth Miller; living grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Miller, Jeremy (Kelly) Miller, Ben (Shelley) Kaman, Kate (Emily) Kaman, Tony (Christina) Miller, Joel (Kayla) Miller, Zachary (Christian) Miller, Nicholas (Katie) Miller, Mackenzie (Tyler) Trueman, Andrea (Mark) Hayse, and Alicia (Ryan) Snyder; and 20 great-grandchildren GG leaves behind.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beatrice Stanz; three brothers, Paul, Warren, and Douglas McDougall; husband of 63 years, Aloyisius Francis Miller; youngest son, Kenneth James Miller; and grandson, Jeffrey James Miller.

Visitation for friends and family will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

Phyllis and Al were great friends to our parents, Curt and Dorothy Miller. She was full of life, love and laughter. I won´t forget her friendship, especially to mom. Beautiful lady!
