Richard "Dick" Bodner died at home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Dick was born in Sandusky and was a 1962 graduate of St. Mary Catholic High School. He studied chemistry at University of Dayton and went on to Ohio University and Michigan State University where he obtained his PhD in Chemistry. He worked for engineering firms and taught chemistry at Triton Community College, Chicago, Illinois.

Dick met his wife, Barbara, at University of Dayton. They married in 1968, moving to Oak Park, Illinois, where they lived for 51 years.

They have four children, Allison, Caroline, Rebecca, and Timothy, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four siblings, John (Marilyn) Bodner, Joann (Jim) Gildenmeister, Thomas (Rosanne) Bodner, and Mary Pat (Phil) Smith.

Dick loved spending time with his family, especially enjoying sailing, skiing, and vacationing at their cabin on Beaver Island, Michigan.

Dick and Barbara recently moved to Baltimore, Maryland to be closer to family. Even in his death, he hoped to help others afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease by donating his body to research. A celebration of his life will be at a later date.
