Robert Coleman Obituary

Robert L Coleman

Sep 17, 1942 - Jan 26, 2025

Avon Lake

Robert L. Coleman, 82, of Avon Lake and formerly of Bellevue and Dayton, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born September 17, 1942, in Dayton to parents Robert Coleman and Mary Ellen (nee Fitzmartin) McCoy.

Bob was raised in Dayton and was a 1960 graduate of Chaminade Catholic High School. He spent many years in Dayton creating the bedrock of his family and raising his older children with their mom, Mary Kay. Bob moved to Bellevue with his second wife, Pauline Coleman, where they established a rich foundation for raising their children. Bob was a hard-working man, retiring after about 20 years of service with City of Bellevue's Street and Public Works department. Instilling this work ethic in his family was important, but more importantly Bob was an encourager to his family, helping them learn and grow on their own paths, while enjoying spending his time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left to continue Bob's legacy of encouragement are his loving children, Richard (Julie), Ron, Rob (Kelly), Anthony (Angela), and Kelsy Krise (Jeff); 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sharon Guterman (Israel), and Bill (Debrah). He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Chris Coleman.

Memorial contributions are suggested to LIFE: A Dementia Friendly Foundation, P.O. Box 117, Oberlin, OH 44074 https://www.dflife.org/donate.html.

Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 4 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon, OH 44011. www.buschcares.com 440-937-6175

Condolences to the Coleman family from the Murray/Hendricks family.

My mother Sonja Hendricks was married to him for 20 years. I knew him since I was 9 years old and lived with him through my teenage years. He was a very responsible, hard working man and loved things to be tidy and in order. Although we didn´t always get along, he taught me how to be more organized and clean which I appreciate. He was very into body building. Which I got into weight lifting and fitness partially because of him. I remember he and my mother going to the gym in uptown Bellevue. I think it was called the weight shed way back when. I wish things could gone differently in the end. I feel bad for the struggle he went through.

Bob aka Punky was my older bothers friend and we rode together to CHAMINADE high school. As someone else noted Punky and my brother would go dancing every week. However we lived on a farm and during the summer Punky and other high school mates would come out to the farm during the summer. These big tough guys couldn't handle the long work days or the air quality of farm work. I enjoyed following these guys and picked up a lot of questionable habits. I have a lot of good memories shared with Bob. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. .

Bob was a really nice guy. I used to talk with him when he lived in Bellevue and worked for the City. Rest in peace Bob!

My deepest sympathy to Bob´s family. We all called him Punk. As a kid he was "Punky" to me.
I have many memories of him at our Grandma´s house on Jersey Street and later as teenagers dancing at the CYO dances. The girls all loved dancing with Punk. Great memories!
