Robert Elbert Gillespie, 82, residing in North Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at after a lengthy illness.

Robert was born Nov. 12, 1941, in Sockets Harbor, New York, to William and Norma (Lesperance) Gillespie.

Robert was a graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of U.S. Marines who proudly served his country from 1959-1963. He was employed as a Conductor at Norfolk Southern for several years. Robert was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #2529. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and fishing.

Robert is survived by his son, Robert (Angie) Gillespie Jr.; son, Glenn (Marci) Gillespie; sister, Marlene; sister, Barbara; sister, Slyvia; brother, Ronald Gillespie; grandchildren, Tony (Veronica Shultz) Gillespie and Ashley (Gillespie) (Mack) Gillen; great-grandchildren, Mia, Nikolai, and Lincoln; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; love of his life, his wife, Beverly (Lauro) Gillespie; second wife, Carol (Fletcher) Gillespie; brother, Larry Gillespie; brother, Roger Gillespie; and sister, Carol Meyers.

Visitation for friends will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, until the time of Robert's funeral at 11 a.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Deacon Bill Burch will preside. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
