Robert VanScoy Obituary

Robert E. "Bob" VanScoy Jr.

Feb 20, 1964 - Oct 11, 2023

Huron

Robert E. "Bob" VanScoy Jr., 59, residing in Huron, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, after a brief illness.

Bob was born Feb. 20, 1964, in Huntington, West Virginia, to Robert and Geraldine (Lowe) VanScoy.

Bob graduated from Sandusky High School in 1982. He was a career police officer, serving 26 years with Sandusky Police Department, reaching the rank of Lieutenant, until his retirement in 2014. He was also a member of Sandusky Marine Patrol. After retirement, Bob turned his focus to his real estate career, becoming a team with his wife, Patti. Together, they proudly served the local community for 11 years. He earned many awards for his efforts as a realtor, being recognized as one of the best agents in the area.

Bob was an avid fisherman, enjoying the sport with his good friends and his brother. He always enjoyed working with his hands and finishing projects around the house. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races every Sunday with his wife and father-in-law, even attending a few races in person. Bob enjoyed traveling with Patti, especially to Florida and Maine, to visit family and spend some relaxing time together.

Above all, Bob was the proudest dad and the proudest grandpa. He and Patti enjoyed every minute they got to spend raising their daughter, Alex. They found one of life's greatest joys in spending precious time with their grandson, Cameron.

Left to mourn his loss are his wife of 34 years, Patricia; daughter, Alexandria (Tyler) Lacey; grandson, Cameron Lacey; brother, Bill (Cheryl) VanScoy; sisters-in-law, Wendy Fahning and Lisa Hoffman; parents-in-law, Larry and Carmel Hoffman; niece, Danielle (Patrick) Moody; nephews, William VanScoy, Dereck VanScoy, and Cody Crandall-Hoffman; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a host of wonderful friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Geraldine VanScoy; maternal and paternal grandparents; and aunts, uncles, and other relatives. We find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his family and friends in Heaven and know that he will be there waiting to give us a big hug someday.

Visitation for friends and family will be 10-11:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron, Ohio, 44839. Beginning at 11:45, there will be a brief prayer service followed by Mass at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Peaks Cemetery, 7815 Darrow Rd., Berlin Heights, Ohio, 44814.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of Bob and his family to Serving our Seniors, Inc., 310 E. Boalt St. #A, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

Rachel and I are deeply saddened to hear about Bob's passing. We will always remember the extraordinary kindness and support he extended to us throughout our home buying journey. Bob possessed a warm, fatherly presence, and we always felt comfortable reaching out to him for any concerns or questions. His absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt. Bob, you will be dearly missed.

Patti and Alex - Bob was a great man who made an impact on so many lives. He left this earth far too soon, and he will be missed greatly. We hope that the memories you have of him provide you comfort during this difficult time.

My 1982 classmate. You were always friendly and we became better friends through social media and when you did an appraisal on my home. That went pretty quickly and then we chatted for about an hour in my driveway, catching up on each other's lives. Seeing you here and there, always a smile and a wave. You were a pillar in the community and simply a really nice, kind man. I'm glad to have known you. Blessings to your family. Rest in peace my friend.

Bob, I'm so sad to hear this news. We will never forget all the wonderful help you gave us, in selling that problematic house, when you were a real estate agent. I was so glad that I encountered you in our journey through life, no matter how briefly. Rest in heavenly peace, Sir! Job well done!
