Robert Wright Obituary

Robert Lee Wright

Mar 18, 1932 - Feb 16, 2025

Clyde

Robert Lee Wright, 92, passed early Sunday morning, February 16, 2025, at Valley View Health Campus in Fremont. He was born March 18, 1932, in Riley Township, Fremont, to Leland H and Helen Irene (Cobb) Wright. He attended Townsend School of Vickery and graduated in 1950. In 1951 he received an agriculture short course degree from Purdue University. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Warner, on August 9, 1952, in the Vickery Methodist Church.

Bob had been a lifelong farmer and, along with his wife, Betty began to grow their homestead "WR Farms". They raised vegetable crops, grains, cattle, built the Steakbarn concession stand, WR meat market and founded the WR Hunt Club. Many times he invented his own machinery. Among his creations were a four-wheel-drive tractor, a composting machine, a conestoga wagon and a self-propelled cabbage harvester, last of which he marketed. Later in life, he achieved one of his life goals of earning his Pilot's license at age 72 and flying his own Cessna 182. Other than farming, most important in his life was his love for his family, who he taught to never give up, work hard and yet be silly and play hard. He was a role model to take care of your family and friends, and to respect the earth, people and animals.

Bob served on many boards including the Federal Land Bank, Erlin Elevator, Sugar Beet board, State and National Cattlemen's Association, Ohio Beef Council and a past supervisor on the Sandusky County soil and water conservation board. In 1970, he received the Sandusky County outstanding farmer award and in 1984, along with Betty, received the Ohio Beef Cattle industry excellence award. He had been a member of 4H and a past leader of the Townsend Blue Ribbon Boys. He was a founding member of the Townsend Friendly Couples Farm Bureau council, member of Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power, the National Farmers Union, Townsend Grange, Sandusky County Farm Bureau and the AOPA Pilots association.

Bob is survived by his high school sweetheart, Betty Wright; son, Tom (Monica) Wright; daughters, Julie (Kim) Gardner, Kathy (Jeff) Gallatin, Lynne (Steve) Sessler, and Susan (John) Cullen. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, Andy Wright, Haley Myers, Jamie Gardner, Matt Gardner, Erin Valko, Jarrod Gallatin, Jacob Gallatin, Crystal Gallatin, Grant Sessler, Grace Corthell and Trae Cullen. He is survived by 20 great-grandchildren, JT Wright, Jack Wright, Hannah Wright, Ben Myers, Toby Myers, Luke Myers, Gauge Gardner, Avery Gardner, Kayden Gardner, Blake Gardner, Collin Gardner, Aubree Valko, Kaycee Valko, Dillon Gallatin, Lauren Gallatin, Trenton Gallatin, Jacklyn Gallatin, Vivian Gallatin, Chase Corthell and Barrett Corthell. He is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Wright.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; and sister, Carol Wright Lanka.

Per Bob's request, private family services will be conducted, and burial will be at Parkhurst Cemetery. An informal celebration of life will be after planting season but before harvest, at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2025, at WR Hunt Club, 5690 CR 237, Clyde.

Special thanks to Connie and Tiffany and also to the amazing staff at Valley View for their wonderful care.

Memorials may be made to the Townsend Township Fire Department, Stein Hospice or your favorite charity.
