Sandra Carothers Obituary

Sandra L. Carothers

Feb 18, 1946 - Jul 20, 2025

Tyler, Texas

Sandra L. Williams Carothers died Saturday, July 12 in Tyler, Texas, after several months of declining health. Born February 18, 1946, in Columbus, to Donald and Wilma Willams, Sandy grew up in Euclid, and graduated from Euclid High School in 1964.

She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1968 with a degree in education and married the love of her life, Thomas Carothers, later that year. The first of their four children was born in 1970, while Tom was deployed to Vietnam; when he returned, Sandy cared for the growing family while Tom pursued graduate studies and began his career as a hydrologist. They moved from Ohio to New Jersey, Illinois, and eventually to Corpus Christi, Texas.

In South Texas, Sandy taught first and second grades at Magee Elementary for 20 years. She felt great pride in the fact that she taught every one of her students to read. She also ferried her own children and their friends to countless music and dance lessons, scout meetings, and band events. She worked the concession stand at Calallen High School football games for a decade to support the marching band during membership of all four children. She enjoyed her membership at Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church and the wonderful friendships that resulted.

After retiring, Tom and Sandy moved to Clyde, where she served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church of Clyde and enjoyed the great people and projects she participated in there.

Sandy was heartbroken when Tom passed away last spring, but she was moved by the love and support she received from friends and family near and far.

She is survived by her four children, Thomas Scot Carothers (Tadao Uchisawa), Krista Lynn Carothers (Jim Meddick), Katherine Carothers McBain (Jeremy), and James Carothers (Catherine). She loved being the grandmother of Jack Meddick, Malcolm and Colin McBain, and relished gathering them together to feast, goof, play, read, and produce impromptu magic shows. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Crane (Bob); sisters-in-law, Susan Carter and Connie Beeken; and lots of beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Clyde.

In lieu of flowers, family requests a donation to First Presbyterian Church of Clyde, 113 West Forest Street, P.O. Box 135, Clyde, Ohio 43410.

Sandy was an excellent educator. She showed her love of teaching with the love she had for each and every one of her students. She expected and received 100% from all her students in the classroom. I was lucky enough to have worked with her most of those 20 years. I know she and Tom are reunited now. May she rest in peace. My sincere condolences to all the Carothers family. Much love, Norma L.
