Sondra "Sonnie" Joan Spicer, 86, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at her home surrounded by family following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Mansfield, to Roy and Mary Joan (Gearhart) Hartman. A lifelong Mansfield resident, she graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and had family roots in the community dating back many generations. Sonnie was lively, social, and loving.
She enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach in the winter, and Lake Erie in the summer, where she encouraged many trips to Toft's Ice Cream. She loved to dance, play cards, shop, and spoil her family. She was the secretary of IBEW Local 688, retiring in 1995. She continued to be an active IBEW member post retirement, regularly attending retiree luncheons and events.
She is survived by three daughters, Cyndy (Mark) Samaritoni of Sandusky, Jody Cooper of Lexington, and Sally (Barry) Lewis of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Ashlee (Drew) Cooper, Lyndsee (Aaron) Cooper, Elena Samaritoni, Rhiannon (Adam) Greter, Leo (Bailey) Samaritoni, and Wesley Lewis; and three great-grandchildren, Hazel, Mayzie, and Violet Greter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father of her children, Art Schrader; husband, Roy Spicer; and many friends.
The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, at Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd.
Sonnie's funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at the funeral home. with Chaplain Daniel Porter officiating. She will be laid to rest at Mansfield Cemetery.
