Susan Link Obituary

Susan Arline Link

Mar 26, 1936 - Jan 11, 2025

Sandusky

Susan Arline (Singler) Link, 88, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the loving care of Stein Hospice Care Center after a full and rewarding life.

She was born March 26, 1936, in Sandusky to Joseph and Arline (Baker) Singler.

Sue graduated in 1954 from St. Mary's High School and Providence School of Nursing in 1957. As a registered nurse, Sue worked in the labor & delivery/maternity dept. of Providence Hospital for nearly 12 years, where she had been promoted to head nurse of obstetrics. Following the birth of her daughter, Sue was a stay-at-home mom, eventually returning to nursing part-time as the school nurse at St. Mary's Elementary, retiring after 25 years. Never one to sit still for long, she took a "retirement job" in admissions at Cedar Point, proudly continuing a Singler family tradition of working for the amusement park that was founded by her great-uncle, George Boeckling. Through the age of 87, she was employed at "The Beach Gate," where she was adored by many guests, especially families, who visited the park every year.

Sue was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and P.E.O. Women's Philanthropy, where she held many offices, including president in 2005-2007. She was defined by her servant's heart, with a selfless commitment to volunteerism and giving of herself to others, which over the years also included: Miss Ohio Pageant Committee; Women's Civic Club, Sandusky Garden Club; co-chair of St. Mary Central Catholic Winter Carnival; co-chair of Sisters of Notre Dame "Centennial of Service in Sandusky" Celebration; co-chair of Sisters of Notre Dame Family Fest; co-chair of St. Mary's Church Fall Festival luncheonette; St. Mary's Church Renovation Committee; and tens of thousands of volunteer hours to numerous local charitable organizations. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends in her spare time, traveling, attending St. Mary's sporting events, and watching Cleveland Cavaliers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

On September 9, 1961, Sue married Frank Link at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky. After 61 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in February 2023.

Sue is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and John Lippus, of Sandusky; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Singler and Mary Singler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is also survived by a very large circle of friends whom she dearly cherished.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph; sister, Ann (and husband, Matt Bursik); brother, Tom (and wife, Carolyn); brother, Charlie (and wife, Rita); and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where a Vigil Service will be at 6:30 p.m. to end the evening. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, January 22, 2025, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with Sue's beloved nephew, the Reverend Monsignor Charles E. Singler, D. Min., presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Jefferson St., Sandusky; St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky; Catholic Charities, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky; Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St., Sandusky; or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky.

It was evident in the short time I knew Sue that she was a kind, caring woman. Shortly after I moved to the neighborhood, I was headed to Goodwill with items loaded onto my backseat, most of which happened to be breakable items. When I stopped at the end of our street, the items shifted. I hopped out of my car and opened the back car door with the intention to redistribute the items to prevent them from breaking. Instead, everything fell out onto the street and broke. I was attempting to clean up the mess on the street (with my car still running but stopped at the stop sign), when Sue came upon me. I thought it might be someone who would be irritated that I was stopped there too long. No, Sue wanted to see if I was okay and asked if I needed any help. Judging by what others have written about Sue, I believe that was true to her nature, offering to help a virtual stranger. She will be missed.

Have not seen Susan since graduation day which was 5/30/54 but always thought the world of her. She and I used to laugh about a sketch I wrote for a pep rally--her character pitched a cosmetic called Aunt Jezebel's Facial Cream (have now idea how I came up with that one) but she was hilarious in the part and we continuously laughed about it. Rest in Peace, Dear Friend, you were a joy to know....

Sue was such a loving person who was a joy to be around. Despite her small size, she was a firecracker and kept us all laughing. She will be greatly missed by all of her P.E.O. Sisters.
