Susan Marie "Sue" Mesner Waszak, 64, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at home from natural causes.

Sue was born June 4, 1959, in Sandusky, to John and Margaret (Andres) Mesner. In Ohio, she earned her two-year Bachelor's and Masters degrees in Nursing and a JD from University of Toledo College of Law. She served many years practicing and teaching nursing in Sandusky before practicing law in Toledo.

Sue made Payson, Arizona, her permanent home in 1996 after falling in love with the state, the Payson area church communities, and her Arizona friends. She married Joseph Waszak Sr. on Oct. 18, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cottonwood. She was a strong supporter of Catholic charities, helped with Sodality, loved her cats and finding thrift store bargains. Sue was an excellent quilter, gifting many to family, friends, and charity.

She is remembered as extremely intelligent, kind, caring, and a force of nature. She was always ready to help family and friends with health concerns and went the extra mile to help someone in trouble. She donated much to children and baby causes. Sue delighted in little caring gestures to her friends and family, being a great hostess and sending unexpected gifts around holidays and birthdays.

Sue is survived by her siblings, Michael C. (Susan) Mesner of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Catherine (Roger) Shockey of Lakeland, Florida, Martha (Jim) Miller of Sandusky, and Amy (Dave) Burdick of Reno, Nevada; nephews and nieces; and many cousins and stepfamily.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Memorial Mass for Sue will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Payton, Arizona. It will be followed by a Sodality social hour.

Per Sue's wishes, funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 204, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cottonwood, Arizona, followed by burial at All Souls Cemetery.

For Sue's Ohio relatives and friends, Mass of Intention will be 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky.

Donations in Sue's name may be made to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Payson Arizona, Priests for Life in Cocoa, Florida, or Humane Society of Erie County in Sandusky.
