Thomas E. "Tom" Schwerer, 81, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 13, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Thomas was born March 15, 1942, in Sandusky, to Edwin and Marcella (Herman) Schwerer.

Tom graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1960. He served in U.S. Army Reserve at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Tom attended Loyola University and University of Dayton, graduating with a degree from The University of Toledo. He held several, several jobs in his life, primarily in Sales, W.T. Grant, American Crayon, and Hoover; Law Enforcement with Willard and Sandusky City Police Departments, Erie County Sheriff's Office, and as a child care worker at Erie County Juvenile Detention Home and as a security guard.

Thomas was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Maritime Museum of Sandusky. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making models for himself and his daughter's projects. He loved music, reading, classic cars/ships/trains, watching British comedies and mysteries, and all things maritime.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jim) Shickley; sister, Marcia Thomas of Bluffton; sister-in-law, Rose Duskin of Bellevue; brother-in-law, Ken Maroni of New York; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Harborview bunch; and sweet cat, Callie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Judy (Maroni) Schwerer in 2017; sister, Mary Jean Howard; niece, Patricia Messina; and parents-in-law, Marino and Ann Maroni.

Visitation for friends will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Father Prashanth Kumar will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Sandusky.

I will remember Tom and his work for various security companies in Sandusky.
He was always thoughtful, thorough and funny. I really appreciated his sense of humor and his attitude about people and the world he lived in. RIP Tom. Condolences to his family
