Velma R. Price, 79, transitioned Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
Velma was born November 29, 1946, in Sandusky, to the late Dorothy Jean Holman and John Jefferson Keaton Sr. She lived a life dedicated to caring for others, both at the bedside and in the hearts of those who loved her.
A registered nurse by heart and by profession, Velma touched many lives with her compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment to excellence in her craft. Her family recalls her steadfast support, gentle wisdom, and quiet strength as she faced each day. She will be remembered not only for her professional dedication but also for the warmth of her smile and the comfort she offered to those in need.
Velma is survived by her devoted son, Sean Price, and Sean's four children, Michael (Nancy) Price and great-grandson, Wolfe; Anthony Price; Kristie Price with soon-to-be great-grandson, Kamari; and Kayla (Matthew) Price and great-granddaughter, Malena. Velma leaves behind six brothers and sisters, Renee (Barry) Bordenave, Denise Curtis, John J. (Enerida) Keaton Jr., Kim Keaton Sr., Kristie (Major) Ruffin, and Trica Keaton; along with numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, with Pastor Valarie Whitaker officiating. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memories of Velma be shared in a way that would honor her legacy of care through acts of kindness to others, especially those in need, and by cherishing time spent with loved ones.
Velma Rae Price, you will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love you gave so freely. May you rest in peace.

Velma, what can I say to you Sean and the entire family about her that can in some way give you comfort? I knew her for the years we worked together at Providence Hospital. She was the consummate professional, dedicated, extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and lovingly compassionate nurse and co-worker. She was joy with which to work; patients looked forward to her taking care of them. I also had the pleasure of knowing Velma aside from work. A wonderful Mom who did her best to instill sound values in you, Sean because she loved you unconditionally. Everyone, please take comfort and be joyous in knowing that the sufferings of this beautiful lady, Mom, Sister, friend, and caregiver have ended, but she is alive in the hearts of all whose lives she touched most deeply. Hold fast to your memories of her. May Our Lord God Saviour Creator who will return soon in the clouds of Glory that everyone everywhere will see Him grant you peace and comfort.
