Bill Haggerty, 83, residing in Huron, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at The Willows at Bellevue after a brief illness.
Bill was born April 28, 1940, in Sandusky, to Michael and Ruth (Beatty) Haggerty.
Bill graduated from Huron High School and attended Ohio University. He was a member of Sandusky Lodge of Elks No. 285 and the former I.A.B. Club of Sandusky. He served in Ohio National Guard.
In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling winning the Bonanza at Cedar Lanes in 1983, golfing, playing poker, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Bill retired from Perkins Local School District serving as Treasurer after 33 years of services. In his retirement, he co-owned The Karmelcorn Shoppe along with CarmCo, and helped manage his wife Penny's family business, the New Sandusky Fish Company.
Bill is survived by his wife, Penny (Spino) Haggerty, whom he married March 6, 1965; daughter, Kellie (Joe) Rico of Macedonia; son, Billy (Jaime) Haggerty of Bellevue; grandchildren, Sara, Cole, Nikkolas, Memphis, and Jacob; great-grandson, Sergio; two sisters, Carol Schnell of Huron and Alice Ramsdell of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Elaine Haggerty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Haggerty; and brothers-in-law, Dale A Ramsdell and Bill Schnell.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Bill's funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Wally Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
