William Lynch Obituary

William John Lynch

May 24, 1945 - Feb 15, 2025

Sandusky

William John Lynch, 79, of Sandusky, died February 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Sandusky after a lengthy illness.

Bill was born May 24, 1945, in Warren, Ohio to the late John W. and Mary (Feichter) Lynch.

Bill graduated from The Ohio State University in 1968 with a degree in mechanical engineering. During his sophomore year, he married his hometown sweetheart, Valerie (Bailey) with whom he had three children, Todd, Denise and Brad. He spent 17 years working for General Electric before owning and operating Premium Auto Repair in Port Clinton from which he retired.

Bill had many hobbies and interests that brought him joy and fostered lasting connections. An avid tennis player alongside his wife, he formed cherished friendships on the court, and one of his greatest joys was working alongside his son, Brad, to renovate Court 1 Tennis in Sandusky. He also loved games and cards, always ready for a friendly match with family and friends. A lifelong reader and learner, Bill had a deep appreciation for history and the mechanics of how things worked. His creativity and skill were evident in his many woodworking projects, and he took great pride in being handy. One of his fondest memories was helping his son, Todd, build his log cabin home-a labor of love that reflected his devotion to family. Bill also enjoyed bike rides and a square of chocolate. Above all, Bill treasured time spent with his grandchildren, family, and friends. His twinkling eye and love for a learned conversation will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Valerie; his daughter, Denise (Marc) Wahrer of Bath, Michigan; son, William Bradley (Kula) Lynch of Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Lynch of Cambridge; grandchildren, Brandon (Monica) Wahrer, Nicole Wahrer, Kailey Wahrer, Levi (Jessie) Lynch, Makayla Lynch, Gage Lynch and Emma Lynch; great-grandson, Bryce Wahrer and Bryce's baby brother due in May; sister, Cathie Bates of Sebring, Florida; and brother, Ken Lynch of Tallahassee, Florida; and his faithful lap cat Silky. He also leaves behind many other beloved family members and very dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: his brothers, Robert Lynch and Terry Lynch; and his son, Todd Alan Lynch.

A special note of thanks to his daughter, Denise, whose unwavering love, care, and dedication provided comfort and compassion during his final months, to his son Brad, who continuously stood by his side, offering support, strength, and respect, and of course to Valerie, whose presence and devotion were a testament to a lifetime of love and commitment.

As were his wishes, his body has been donated to The Ohio State School of Medicine ensuring his legacy of a want to know and learn continues to inspire and educate others. The family is planning a celebration of life this summer.

Bill and I met at GE (in Florida) in 1973 and even though we ended up over 1000 miles apart we remained good friends for over 50 years. I have always been in awe of Bill´s great personality and love of reading and gaining knowledge. After he and Valerie moved back to Ohio, Myrna and I still got together with them at least twice a year, often traveling together. His love for Valerie and his family was always apparent. He will be missed by many.
