William A. Schell

Huron

William A. Schell, 91, of Huron, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at home, after suffering with Parkinson's Disease and heart problems for several months.

He was born Jan. 26, 1932, at home in Bellevue, to Harold P. Schell and Lucille Rundt Schell. He attended kindergarten and first grade in Bellevue, second grade in Sandusky, and third grade through graduation in Huron. He graduated from Huron High School in 1949 where he was Jr. Class President and member of Huron's first 11-man football team. When he was 18, he joined U.S. Navy Reserve and was activated into the Navy during the Korean war. He served from Jan. 13, 1952 to Dec. 4, 1953 as an Airman and aviation structural mechanic.

He married Carol (Haggerty) Schell on Sept. 7, 1957, and they celebrated 65 years this past September. He was a member of Huron United Methodist Church since moving to Huron in 1938. He served on various committees such as President of Trustees, Men's Brotherhood, married couples club, Head Usher, Church Historian, and Logos Table Parent for 5 Years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 83, AMVETS Post OH-0017, past member of national watch and collectors, and Ohio Gun Collectors. He was a Federal Licensed Grain Inspector and Chief Weigh Master for Huron Chamber of Commerce for 17 years. He also worked in production control at Chrysler Plastic for 12 years and retired as a manager of Huron Asher Brothers for 13 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Verna Lehrer of Sandusky; sisters-in-law, Elaine Haggerty of Independence and Alice Ramsdell of Sandusky; brother-in-law, William (Penny) Haggerty of Huron; four nephews; five nieces; three God daughters; honorary daughter, Mary Boos; honorary son, Cork Moore; feline son, Cyrus; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucille Schell; parents-in-law, Michael and Ruth Haggerty; brothers-in-law, James Haggerty and Dale Ramsdell; and feline daughter, Bindi. (Bindi's ashes will be buried with Bill).

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron, Ohio, 44839. Bill's funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Huron United Methodist Church, 338 Williams St., Huron. Burial will follow at Scott Cemetery, Huron Avery Rd., Huron.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the endowment fund or roof fund at Huron United Methodist Church or Huron Rescue Squad, 413 Main St., Huron.

Mrs. Schell would like to express her thanks and gratitude to neighbors, Lura, Jane, Bernie, Mike and Leah, good friends, Cork, Mary, Joanne, Sherry, John, Terry W. Terry, and Judi, and the staff at Firelands Hospital, Admirals Pointe, and The Meadows at Osborn Park for their care over the past several months.
