Willie McCarty Obituary

Willie Lavon McCarty

Jul 5, 1956 - Jul 2, 2024

Sandusky

Willie Lavon "Bo" McCarty, 67, peacefully entered eternal rest Tuesday, July 2, 2024, surrounded by his wife and loved ones at his residence.

He was born July 5, 1956, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, the son of Mr. Willie "Dr. BB" McCarty and Mrs. Elouis Russell. Bo graduated from Sandusky High School in 1976 and served in U.S. Army from June 22, 1976 to May 31, 1983.

Throughout his life, Bo had various jobs and was notably the founder of Shining Waters Inc. in Sandusky. This organization hosted numerous powwows downtown of Sandusky where Bo was known for crafting his own regalia. Many recognized him as the Medicine Man or Chief. Whether he was meticulously working on cars in his front yard or tending to his community garden or strolling the city in his full Native regalia praying for the city, Willie was a familiar figure in his neighborhood.

Willie found joy in fishing, listening to Native American music, and most of all, spending cherished moments with his grandchildren and the children of his community. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and his infectious smile and laughter will forever be remembered.

Willie will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 23 years, Carla Kent-McCarty; children that cherish his legacy, Joseph (Deanna) McCarty of Sandusky, Treymane (Melat) McCarty of Aldie, Virginia, Hiram Shamir McCarty of Fresno, California, twins Quency and Isaac McCarty, both of Newark, Ohio, Colten McCarty of Newark, Ohio, Alphonso Lewis of Sandusky, Nakosha Farris of Sandusky, and Chanece Lewis of Harrisburg, Pennsyvlania; siblings, Kimely (Curtiss) Samuel of Sweetwater, Alabama, Carla McCarty of Cincinnati, Audrey (Ricky) Samuel of Manado, Indonesia, Giovahna Darden of Sandusky, Patricia Sims of Jacksonville, Florida, Jimmy (Sharon) McCarty of Kokomo, Indiana, Wayne (Birdia) McCarty of Sandusky, Larry McCarty, Norbert Sims, Allen Sims, Timothy (Reuben) Sims, and Zachary Sims, all of Jacksonville, Florida, Neil (Myra) McCarty of Mebane, North Carolina, and Donald (Margie) Sims of Mobile, Alabama; sister-in-law, Lysandra Kent; brother-in-law, Curtiss Kent of Sandusky; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie McCarty and Elouis Russell; daughter, Stephanie Dawn McCarty; brothers, Lawrence Edward McCarty and Samuel Allen McCarty; and father and mother-in-law, Carl Brown and Deloris Kent.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2024, until the time of Bo's funeral at 11 a.m. at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 1814 Milan Road, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
