Willis "Gene" Darby, 96, of Huron and formerly of Vermilion, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024.

He was born Sept. 7, 1927, to Allen and Gladys (Nuhn) Darby. Willis led a life filled with dedication and service.

Willis, a 1945 Vermilion High School graduate, served as a Foreman at Clevite in Milan, dedicating 23 years to his work before retiring in 1991. His commitment extended beyond the workplace, as he also served in U.S. Army, contributing to the nation's defense with honor and valor. His sense of duty and community involvement extended to his membership in First Presbyterian Church in Huron and Sandusky Maritime Museum, where he played a vital role in its creation Additionally, Willis was a proud member of AMVETS in Sandusky.

Willis is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Wikel-Darby; son, Gregory S. and Marlene (Ivan) Darby of North Carolina; brother, Allen and Virginia (Fornash) Darby of Republic; stepdaughter, Linda (Wikel) and Timothy Wilcox of Norwalk; and grandsons, Tyler and Kelsi (Rose) Wilcox of Sandusky and Thomas Wilcox of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy J. (Roggerman) Darby; and brother, Robert E. Darby.

Services will be at a later date.

Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, Huron, is assisting family.
