Carrie F. Sowards, 92, residing in Lakeside Marblehead, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 13, 1932, in Greenup, Kentucky.
Carrie was a proud graduate of Portsmouth High School and active member of The Chapel-Port Clinton Campus. She was also a dedicated member of VFW #7572 in Marblehead and American Legion in Sandusky. Carrie had a passion for cooking and a talent for cake decorating. Her love for children was evident in the joy she found in spending time with them.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Alfred Sowards, whom she married July 18, 1953; son, Verl (Lisa) Sowards of Hudson, Florida; two daughters, Vanessa Sowards of Sandusky and Victoria Sowards of Port Clinton; two grandchildren, Brad Sowards of Palm Beach, Florida, and Rebecca (Mike) Deverso of Galena, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Lexie Sowards, Marin Deverso, Avery Deverso, and Peyton Deverso; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Cline and Deana Ruth Cline; four brothers, Ronald Darby, Lee Darby, Mark Darby, and Chuck Darby; and sister, Margaret Elam.
Visitation for friends to gather will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, until the time of Carrie's memorial service at 2 p.m. at The Chapel - Port Clinton Campus, 4650 E. Port Clinton Eastern Rd., Port Clinton, Ohio, 43452, with Pastor Todd Neilson presiding.

All the years, all the wonderful dinners, holiday parties, weddings, card playing leave so many priceless memories. I will never forget the wonderful memories when you took us into their home when Mom and dad needed someone to care for us due to Mom`s injury.
The most altruistic family I´ve ever known!
Will miss you dearly "Aunt" Carrie....

Carrie was such a sweetheart. I remember the visits Al and her would make to our Lincoln Street home in Sandusky to play an evening game of pinochle with Mom and Carl, or bringing the family along to hang out with us six kids. Carrie and Al would also do the rounds on the golf course with Mom and Carl, they were such good close friends. And as our Mary Lou and Carl Krueger left this world, Al and Carrie continued to be near us all. Ever thoughtful, loving and dear, we are like family. Prayers to you all
