Clarence Johnston Obituary

Clarence Pershing Johnston

Aug 27, 1943 - Sep 30, 2024

Sandusky

Clarence Pershing Johnston, 81, of Sandusky, known to his friends and family as "Perky," passed away Monday, Sept. 30, 2024.

He was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. He spent his childhood in Auto, West Virginia and Rising Sun, Maryland. He moved to Sandusky as a teenager.

In Sandusky he met Suzanne, the girl next door, on Decatur Street. She became his loving wife of over 50 years. They shared a deep love, weathering life's many ups and downs together. Suzanne passed away in 2021. Before his passing, he saw her welcoming him home to Heaven. Perky served in U.S. Army, worked in road construction and maintenance, performed factory work, and co-founded a small cleaning business with Suzanne.

Perky is survived by his sister, Micky; daughter, Teresa; son, Jeremy; grandchildren, Hyatt and Aurora; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Elliot; half-siblings, Peggy, Donna, Brenda, Rick, and Debbie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne; sister, Vicky; and brother, John.

Perky was at heart a country boy from the hills of West Virginia. His bright intellect and free spirit guided him into a variety of passions and interests. He was at times a pool player, card player, biker, mechanic, movie buff, inventor, hippie, bohemian, health food enthusiast, and UFO theorist. Yet, he remained very down to earth and was proud of always paying his bills on time. He was a fan of old fashion rock-and-roll, gospel music, dogs, Cleveland Guardians, and Coca-Cola.

His off-beat sense of humor, kindness, and generosity made him a friend to many. He had dozens of goods friends in the Sandusky area. He was a caring father who worked hard to provide and he loved his family deeply.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Father's Heart Family Church.
