Gerald R. Batesole, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at home after a brief illness.

Gerald was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Fremont to the late William and Catherine (Flahiff) Batesole. He grew up at the family farm in Riley Township, Fremont.

Gerald graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1951. He was employed as a heavy press operator at Ford Motor Company for 39 years, from which he retired in July 1995. Gerald was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sandusky. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, traveling, and he was an avid car enthusiast. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and was thankful for all the care his stepgrandson, Cody, showed over the past few years.

Gerald is survived by his son, Gerald (Patricia) Batesole of Pickerington; son, Richard (Sandy) Batesole of Avon Lake; daughter, Debra (Patrick) Carpenter of Elyria; daughter, Theresa (Gregg) Newness of Norton; son, Robert Batesole of Amherst; daughter, Tammie (Mike) Young of Amherst; stepdaughter, Joan (Verlus) Herzog of St. Marys; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Batesole, whom he married on June 5, 1971; his siblings, Margaret (Jim) Perry, Rosaland (Bud) Miller, Ruth (Rollin) Hawk, Donald "Bud" (Pauline) Batesole, Daniel (Dee) Batesole, Catherine (Daniel) Witter, James (Judy) Batesole and Elizabeth (Donald) Stang; his stepson and great-grandson.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with Phil Dinovo presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
