Glenn Gerold Obituary

Glenn J. Gerold

Mar 14, 1949 - Jul 19, 2024

Castalia

Glenn James Gerold, 75, of Castalia, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 14, 1949, in Sandusky, to Pierre William and Eleanor Amanda (Winklea) Gerold.

Glenn was a 1967 graduate of Sandusky High School. He was a veteran of U.S. Navy and proudly served during Vietnam from 1968-1972 as a jet mechanic. He was an electrician by trade and worked for Cedar Point from 1967-1983, NASA from 1983-1987, and for JBT Food Tech, where he retired in 2016. Glenn was a member of American Legion, AMVETS, VFW, and Holy Angels Church. He was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being on his motorcycle, and boating. He often kept busy by woodworking, gardening, and going to flea markets. Glenn was well-known for his cooking skills and legendary Christmas cookies. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he took joy in sharing his love of Disney movies with.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Diana Louise (Taylor) Gerold, whom he married April 15, 1977; children, Stephanie Gerold and Chad (Kasi Garcia) Gerold; four grandchildren, Nishaia, Kane, Gracie, and Rhoslyn; siblings, Jane Daniel, Mary Potts, Gloria (Dale) Herzfield, and Kay (Tom) Zeman-Benefiel; sister-in-law, Donna Gerold; life-long friends, Jeff (Kathy) Tieche and Rich (Becky) Slyker; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Phyllis, James, and Tom (Joanne) Gerold; and brother-in-law, Bob Daniel.

Visitation for friends will be 3 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, until the time of Glenn's funeral at 5 p.m. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

My grandpa was the most amazing, kind and gentle man. He loved me like no other and was genuinely my best friend. I learned about patience, dancing in the kitchen, and baking from him. He would take me to the movies weekly to see all the new movies coming out, and we would spend weekend watch the princess diaries or harry potter reruns. He always made Christmas a very special time. We would listen to the same ten Christmas songs and decorate the big tree they always put in their small living room and would spend days and hours making the most yummy cookies. I miss him dearly and feel him every where I go. I hope everyone gets the experience even an ounce of the great and kind love that he gave and had. Miss u pawpaw.
