Hooshang Mahnami Obituary

Hooshang "Hoosh" Mahnami

Sep 1, 1936 - Mar 4, 2026

Sandusky

Hooshang "Hoosh" Mahnami, 89, formerly of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday morning, March 4, 2026, at Sanctuary Grande in North Canton following a brief illness.

Hoosh was born September 1, 1936. He attended the University of Southern Colorado. He later retired from the Erie Regional Planning Commission in Ohio after twenty-one years of dedicated service.

Hoosh had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring both the United States and destinations around the world. He especially loved the Viking River Cruises he shared with his late wife, Margaret, and treasured trips to Europe, Alaska, Canada, and many places throughout the United States where they visited friends and sightseeing along the way.

He also loved driving and often took long road trips, frequently traveling from Ohio to Colorado. One of his favorite stories to share was a memorable trip to Yellowstone National Park. Hoosh had a playful personality and loved teasing his children and playing pranks.

An extremely social person, Hoosh enjoyed meeting people, telling stories, and sharing good food. He especially loved going out to restaurants and trying different cuisines. He also enjoyed cooking Persian food and was well known among family and friends for making excellent rice.

Golf was another great passion in Hoosh's life. He loved playing the game and had the opportunity to golf at courses throughout the world. He took particular pride in his work as Erie County planner and in being part of the design of the golf course at Sawmill Creek in Huron. Hoosh also had a strong appreciation for architecture and enjoyed designing and building homes.

Above all, Hoosh deeply loved his wife, Margaret, with whom he shared nearly thirty wonderful years of marriage. She was his best friend and soulmate. After her passing in January 2010, he spoke of her often and faithfully visited her grave with flowers. Though his family will deeply miss talking with him and having him with them each day, they find comfort knowing he is now at peace and reunited with the love of his life.

Hoosh is survived by his daughter, Teresa "Sister" (Mike) Somody; son, Daniel "Danny" Mahnami; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Michael J., Rachel, Ashley, Samuel, and Stephanie; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty years, Margaret E. Mahnami, in 2010.

A private family graveside service will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Those wishing to contribute to Hoosh's memory may do so to American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
