Irene Cheek Obituary

Irene L. Cheek

Mar 16, 1928 - Jan 19, 2024

Fremont

Irene L. Cheek, 95, of Fremont, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at The Courtyard at Fremont.

She was born March 16, 1928, in Port Clinton, to Lawrence and Rose (St. Bonore) Floro. She married Howard C. Cheek on Nov. 6, 1971, in Oak Harbor, and he preceded her in death Nov. 20, 2004. Irene worked as a nurses aide, previously at Magruder Hospital and Riverview Nursing Home and also as an office clerk for Ayling & Reichert Co. and Routh Meatpacking Co.

She loved family events and spending time with her family, and really enjoyed cooking for them. Her family always enjoyed her company and time spent with her. They are definitely going to miss her cooking and baking, especially her chocolate chip cookies and homemade pies she made from scratch. Irene was a caregiver for many years for her parents and other family. This is a trait she has passed on to other family members as well to continue her legacy of taking care of family. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky.

Irene is survived by her children, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Scott) Bahs and Steve (Cindy) Riley; grandchildren, April Kodak, Ryan (Julie) Riley, Dillon Kodak, and Ashley Riley; and great-grandson, J.T. Riley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Judy Apling; and siblings, David Floro and Dorothy Floro.

Private family services for Irene will be conducted at a later date.

Memorial contributions in memory of Irene may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals.
