John Luipold Obituary

John Richard Luipold

Jul 1, 1941 - Sep 19, 2023

Sandusky

John Richard Luipold, 82, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, after a brief illness at the Parkvue Community.

John was born July 1, 1941, in Sandusky, to John and Nettie (Heinz) Luipold.

John graduated from Sandusky High School in 1960 and began working with his dad at John Luipold Plumbing and Heating. He joined the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 42 Union. He enlisted in U.S. Coast Guard in 1963 and served for eight years.

John sat on the Sandusky City Plumbing Board as well as the City Board of Appeals. Through the years, John was a trustee at Sandusky Yacht Club, member of Maritime Museum, Singara Grotto, and Sandusky Amvets Post 17, and 50-year member of Sandusky Power Squadron and Sandusky Masonic Perseverance Lodge F & AM. In his spare time, he was an avid boater and was well-respected for his knowledge of everything related to boats. As a young man, he won several "prized" trophies when he raced several different boats, including his 13-foot Sandusky.

John's wife would tell you he was an honest, dependable, and hardworking man. She would also say "I never met anyone that didn't like John Luipold!"

John is survived by his wife, Shelly Luipold, whom he married on New Year's Eve 57 years ago. Together, they raised two sons, Martin John (Shelly) Luipold and Chris John (Kelly) Luipold, and three grandsons, Mason, Conor, and Andrew. He is also survived by his niece, Lexi; and great-niece, Rhea.

At John's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be 12-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at the Legacy Center at 1522 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Just prior to a lite lunch, the Sandusky Power Squadron will offer a small service followed by members of Sandusky Masonic Perseverance Lodge F & AM.

Those wishing to contribute to John's memory may do so to Sandusky Power Squadron and Maritime Museum.

Hi Shelly, You probably don't remember me, but my parents and John's parents were life long friends ( Marguerite and Ray Hofer ) My prayers go out to you and family for your great loss. Know that John is not lost, but with God and you will see him again ! We all have citizenship in heaven and we were never meant to stay . I lost my wife a little over a year ago and it is not easy, but believe in the promises of God and may the peace of God that transcends time and space be with you, my friend ! God Bless you !!
