John Schoewe Obituary

John Frederick Schoewe

Oct 26, 2022 - Nov 16, 2022

Athens, Georgia

John Frederick Schoewe, 91, passed away peacefully in Athens, Georgia, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022.

He was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Sandusky, as the son of two German immigrants, Oscar and Mina Schoewe.

He was a track star in high school and then joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. He was a long-time insurance advisor with the Jim Boyd agency in Madison, Ga.

He is survived by his two daughters Debby Allen and Cindy Mitchell McGarvey (husband Jim) and a son Hayden B Schoewe; granddaughter, Jennifer Gunn (Allen); nephews Terry Gentner (wife Amy) Chuck Taylor (wife Marilyn), Kathy Bodi (husband Dave), Mark Schoewe (wife Juanita) and Greg Schoewe (wife Nancy). His first wife M. Jeanne Lacey Schoewe passed in 2010, and he was a widower of his second wife Susan Hudgins Schoewe passing in 2020.

John was a father, a husband, and a person of great wit and charm. Since a fall in February of this year, his daughters were always greeted by a nurse expressing we just love John. We want to take him home in our suitcase today! He was a golfer, a great poet, and had those witty one-liners that could always bring a smile...did you hear the one about....? He was lovingly cared for at home by our friend Lanice McDonald's loving hands and The Orchard of Athens for the final months. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him.
