Linda Hendrie Obituary

Linda Rose (Miller) Hendrie

Aug 2, 1941 - Nov 7, 2024

Beaufort,

South Carolina

It is with profound sadness that the family of Linda Hendrie announces her passing Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at home in Beaufort, South Carolina, at age 83, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born Aug. 2, 1941, in Sandusky and was preceded in death by her father, Charles Miller, in 1963; her mother, Ugolina Miller, in 2007, both of Sandusky; and her brother-in-law, John Hendrie, of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, in 1994. She had no siblings.

A 1959 graduate of Sandusky High School and a 1964 graduate of Ohio University's College of Education, she was an extraordinary elementary school teacher who taught in Cleveland, Sandusky, Jacksonville, North Carolina, and St. Paul, Minnesota.

She married United States Marine Corps Lt. Richard Hendrie of Toronto, Canada, at St. Stephen United Church in 1965 in Sandusky and spent the next four years as a USMC wife, residing in Jacksonville, North Carolina and in Sandusky while Lt. Hendrie was a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. After leaving the USMC, Richard spent 20 years as a special agent with the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, now known as the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the US Customs Service during the Drug War. During that time, the family was stationed in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Key West, Florida. After Richard retired in 1989, the Hendries resided on the family farm near Askov, Minnesota, until 2002. For the past 22 years, the Hendries have resided in Cedar Key, Florida and in Beaufort.

Linda leaves behind her husband, Richard, of 59 years in Beaufort; two sons, Chad and Christian; two granddaughters, Grace and Hazel; two grandsons, Fletcher and Brock, all residing in the Twin Cities, Minnesota area; her sister-in-law, Susan Larosee of Grafton, Wisconsin; a niece, Jennifer Nelson of Beaufort, South Carolina; and her two closest friends, Sandra Miller and Ruth Wagner, both of Sandusky.

Her ashes will join those of her parents in a brief burial ceremony at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron at a date to be announced in Spring of 2025.

In her memory, a gift to ASPCA or a charitable organization of your choice would be appreciated.
