Lucille Ann Benya, 98, of Marblehead, passed away, surrounded by loved ones, Monday, January 13, 2025, at Otterbein North Shore. She was born March 30, 1926, in Lakeside, the daughter of Michael and Veronica (Dziak) Ihnat.
She married Lawrence E. Benya on November 15, 1947. She graduated from Lakeside High School in 1943, where she played clarinet in the band. She began working for Lakeside & Marblehead Railroad, then for Chemstone Corp., Marblehead Division of Standard Slag Corp and LaFarge Corp. She was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead, where she was active in St. Mary's Ladies Aid Society. She belonged to Delta Theta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Sorority and Peninsula CCL. Lucy bowled in several leagues and volunteered with American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She enjoyed attending family events, playing pinochle and bingo, and working on jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are her sons, John M. (Kathleen) Benya of Sylvania, Brian R. (Laura) Benya of Spring Hill, Florida; grandchildren, Nicholas Benya of Sylvania, Alison (Darin) Mondrach of Naples, Florida, Beth Benya of Spring Hill, Florida, Carrie Benya of Spring Hill, Florida; great-grandchildren, Aron and Robin Benya and Madalyn, Macoy and Mayer Mondrach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; and brother, Emil (Nancy) Ihnat.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home; Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. Lakeside-Marblehead. Funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 506 E. Main St., Marblehead. Interment will follow in St. Mary Byzantine Cemetery, Marblehead.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church or donor's choice.
