Michael Hasenmeier Obituary

MICHAEL WALTER "MIKE" HASENMEIER

Apr 26, 1958 - Jan 15, 2026

LAKELAND, FLORIDA

Michael Walter Hasenmeier, 67, passed away peacefully at home in Lakeland, Florida, surrounded by love Thursday, January 15, 2026.

Mike was born April 26, 1958, in Sandusky, Ohio, to Walter Hasenmeier and Nancy (Ferguson) Hasenmeier. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1976 and worked at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 30 years of service at 48 years old. While he loved retirement, he stayed busy - always helping anyone who needed a hand.

He was a member of VFW, American Legion, Eagles and Oriole Club for many years, where he was like "Norm" - everybody knew his name.

Mike worked hard his entire life, and if he didn't know how to do something, he would somehow figure it out. "Mikey" and his buddies, Terry Fitzthum and David Dawes, once went to his daughter Kristy's house in Florida to fix something "minor". Kristy came home to a new, huge deck, where they kicked back and enjoyed a cold beer, sitting in the sunshine and cracking jokes.

He and his son Michael worked together on many home renovations in Sandusky. Michael once called his mom and said, "We're headed to the hospital, Dad just nailed his thumb to a board with the nail gun." "Big Mike" and Michael were quite the Father-Son team - enjoying their deer hunting trips to West Virginia during Thanksgiving.

After retirement, Mike and his wife, Cindy, decided to hop in the car and take a road trip. Visiting many states, stopping to say "hey" to some friends, driving up the California coast and enjoying a few glasses of wine at some amazing wineries. Memories that last a lifetime.

Once his grandsons were born, Mike moved to Lakeland, Florida, where he loved spending time with them. Fishing at the dock, playing with Thomas the train and taking walks around the neighborhood, sometimes stopping to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket so he and the boys could buy an RV.

Mike is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Cindy (Decker) Hasenmeier; daughter, Kristy (Brad Orman) Hasenmeier; son, Michael Hasenmeier; grandsons, Lucas and Zackary Orman; sisters, Teresa (John) Wittmer, Penny Hasenmeier, and Lisa (Greg) Gianvito; brother, Mark (Deb) Hasenmeier; and mother-in-law, Beverly Decker; and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Walter, in 2004; his mother, Nancy, in January 13, 2026; his nephew, Chad Ries, in 2014; and his father-in-law, Jerry Decker, in 2003.

Please join us in the celebration of Mike's life from 3-6 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2026, at American Legion, Hayes Avenue, Sandusky.

Our family thanks everyone for their love and prayers. Mike had many amazing doctors throughout the last years of his life; a special thanks to them and Kristy and Brad for helping with his care.

In lieu of flowers, Mike would love it if you'd plant a tree or even a tomato plant in his honor.

Rest now, Mike. You fought hard. ALWAYS LOVED AND NEVER FORGOTTEN.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
