Rubin Johnson Obituary

Rubin Henry Johnson Sr.

Dec 12, 1930 - Nov 29, 2025

Sandusky

Rubin Henry Johnson Sr., 94, Sandusky, peacefully from his home was called to be with his savior Saturday, November 29, 2025.

He was born December 12, 1930, in Trenton, Tennessee. Rubin attended Sandusky High School and later worked at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 32 years in 1993.

Rubin was the eldest of three children of Henry and Dora (Fowlkes) Johnson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Althea M.; sisters, Helen Washington and Hattie Lee.

Rubin leaves to mourn his life, children, Jackie (Mike) Scott of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Linda Hunt-Boone of Waterville, Rubin Johnson Jr. of Toledo, Doris (Joe) Smith of Toledo, Rachelle (Greg) Perkins of Maumee, and Jon Johnson of Sandusky; and brother-in-law, Stanley (Debbie) Webster. His grandchildren, Rubin Johnson III, Dawn Smith, Mike (Crystal) Smith, Tawanna Johnson, Latoya (Daymien) DeVaughn, Janese Johnson, Joe Smith, Shawron Smith, Isiah Johnson, and Morgan Johnson; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish his memory.

Rubin was a devoted, long-standing member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Although he was unable to attend in the last few years, he remained faithful, mailing his monthly tithing check.

In earlier days, if not getting that overtime, Rubin would be dressed to the nines and would be wherever there was a pool game. During the summer, you could find him sitting outside under the carport, watching people walk or ride by, often stopping to chat for a while. Evenings and cold days, he'd spend his time sitting in the kitchen looking out the window and watching old westerns, court dramas and sports. Jon loves to cook and would ensure Dad's dinner was served around 5 p.m. every day. When Dad's girls came to town, we knew not to eat beforehand because by 3 p.m., we'd be at the Golden Corral for dinner.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon Friday, December 5, 2025, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.

Rubin loved his family and the Lord. There is one thing you should know about Rubin: he still knelt on the side of his bed each night and said his prayers.

What a beautiful testimony of a praying man. I worked with your mom years ago at New Departure. I met your dad a long time ago.
My sincere condolences to his family.
