Sandusky

Karen Ann (Lang) Carroll, 82, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at Providence Care Center.

Karen was born March 12, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Leo A. and Cecilia A. (Metzler) Lang. Karen was a graduate of Immaculata High School in Chicago and she worked for a few years at Northern Trust Bank and The Lasalle Bank. After getting married, she also helped her husband at his dental office in Sandusky. Karen later worked for Erie County Board of Education as a teacher's aide for nearly 10 years before retiring.

Over the years, she enjoyed reading, birding, gardening, and playing cards with her bridge club friends for over 50 years. She enjoyed getting together with her church friends. Karen enjoyed serving as a Girl Scout Leader for many years when her daughters were young. Married in 1963, she enjoyed being a wife and mother. Family was very important to her.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was active with the bereavement luncheon program and volunteered at the school. Karen was a member of Republican Women's Group and Christian Women's Club for many years.

She is survived by three daughters, Denice M. (Richard) Schafer of Boardman, Darlene A. Carroll of East Amherst, New York, and Cynthia A. Brodman of Tiffin; son, Timothy J. (Richele) Carroll of Mesa, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Erin (Schafer) Schmidt, Matthew Schafer, Michael Schafer, Brittany Brown, Nicholas Brown, Alexandra Brown, Joseph Brodman, Emma (Brodman) Huth-Fretz, and Cecilia Brodman; three great-grandchildren, Layla Hooker, Luna Huth-Fretz, and Amelia Brodman with another to be born in May; four former sisters-in-law, Rita Thompson, Bonnie Huber, Bev Carroll, and Mary Anne Carroll; brother-in law, Richard (Debbie) Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; very special maternal grandparents, Anna and Andrew Metzler, whom raised Karen from when she was only three months old until she turned 12 years old; paternal grandparents, Mary and Casper Lang; three infant sons, Thomas, Michael, and Steven Carroll; former husband, Thomas J. Carroll (2002); in-laws, Esther (Riesterer) and John L. Carroll; former son-in law, Richard Brodman; grandson, John Richard Brodman (2017); brother, Leo A. Lang; sister, Diana Veriha of Porterfield, Wisconsin (2023); brother-in-law, John Veriha; three former brothers-in-law, John Carroll, James Carroll, and Larry Thompson; and former sister-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Sndyer.

Visitation will be 8:30-9:45 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Father Zach Brown will officiate. Friends and family are invited to attend lunch in the church's gathering space after Mass.

Her cremains will be buried later in the family plot at Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, Karen's family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or the scholarship fund for The Erie County Republican Women's Club.

Our cruise group met Karen through her daughter Darlene. What a great introduction to an incredibly beautiful woman, inside and out.
We traveled with Karen cruising through the Caribbean. And we all enjoyed her sense of humor and company whether it was poolside or at dinner. She will be missed.
