Linda Reichenbach Obituary

Linda (Wittich) Reichenbach

Oct 16, 1940 - Mar 22, 2025

Sandusky

Linda Wittich Reichenbach, 84, loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with family present on March 22, 2025, at Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville.

She was born October 16, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Carl Wittich and Gisela June Kulas Wittich, who immigrated to the United States from Germany and Austria.

Linda was a 1958 graduate of Edwin Derby High School in Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

She married Dean J. Reichenbach, M.D., June 18, 1961, whom she met while they were both attending the University of Michigan. She taught first grade for several years and supported her husband's active-duty military service in the U.S. Army at Fort Devens, MA.

Linda was the proud mother of three children, Amy Reichenbach Buehrer (1964), Lisa Reichenbach Adkins (1968), and Daniel J. Reichenbach, M.D. (1972). An ever-active parent, Linda was a faithful "horse show mom" and served as 4-H parent advisor at the Ohio State and Huron County Fairs. She led Girl Scout troops and day camps and organized family trips to the Grand Canyon and Sanibel Island, among many other destinations.

Linda maintained a lifelong commitment to education and community stewardship. Her work included serving in many leadership roles, including president, for P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), an organization dedicated to the advancement of education for women. She served on the Erie County Medical Society Auxiliary Board as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer (at varying times) and secured donations for the former Providence School of Nursing, former Sandusky School of Practical Nursing, EMT training, and community medical services. As part of this service, she managed Firelands Regional Medical Center gift shop for many years, meticulously curating gifts from stuffed animals to jewelry.

She was a member of the Library Association of Sandusky, with service periods in many roles, including vice president, treasurer, and chair of building and grounds. She served the Sandusky Library & Follett House Museum Foundation from the time of its incorporation in 1991. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as a congressional council member, deacon, trustee, usher, and communion server.

Linda was a dedicated University of Michigan football fan and an avid patron of local theater. She loved the beach and treasured living on Lake Erie. She maintained beautiful gardens at her home on Cedar Point Road and famously rode every ride at Cedar Point well into her sixties. She shared her passions with her children and grandchildren and loved celebrating and supporting their activities and interests.

Linda is survived by two children, daughter, Lisa (Roger) Adkins of Marysville, and son, Dan (Courtney) Reichenbach, M.D., of New Bern, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, Alise (Mark) Edgcomb, Rebecca, Luke, Janice, and Seton Buehrer, Rachel (Jeremiah) Justice, Jacob (Jordyn) Adkins, Alex Adkins, Samantha (Zach) Zeleznik, and Kate Reichenbach; great-grandchildren, Isla and Callan Edgcomb, Gracelyn and Luke Adkins; and her sister, June MacMichael of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean J. Reichenbach, M.D.; her daughter, Amy Reichenbach Buehrer; and her parents, Carl Wittich and Gisela June Kulas Wittich.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2025, at David F. When I was a kid, my Aunt Linda was a whirlwind of casseroles, pretty clothing, and clean beach towels. She was kind, level-headed, and particularly articulate. For all of my adult life I´ve described her as "always knowing the right thing to say". Her grace and enthusiasm for life has made a huge impression on me and I´ve missed her dearly in recent years.

My heart is with Aunt June and the families of my cousins grieving this week. I´m planning to see you this Monday in Sandusky.

My son-in-law`s mother. A good sweet woman whom I enjoyed being around only a handful of times and wish it could have been more. She and Dean visited when I lived in Edenton. Such a special day with our young granddaughter Kate and Courtney and Dan.
