Lucille Hanson Obituary

Lucille M. Hanson

Jan 3, 1945 - Jun 18, 2024

Sandusky

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lucille (Malone) Hanson on Tuesday June 18, 2024, at home surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.

Lucille was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Cleveland. As a teen, she enjoyed playing the accordion and loved spending time with her classmates who after high school became devoted lifelong friends. Lucille graduated from Collinwood High School in 1963, embarking on what would become a wonderful life. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Carl Hanson, and together they built a beautiful family and lasting business. The couple founded Label Aid Inc. in 1984 which serves as a testament to their dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. Forty years later, the company continues to thrive under the leadership of their family.

Lucille was an active member of Plum Brook Country Club, where her love for golf and socializing with lasting friends was evident. She enjoyed playing on her 18-hole golf league and planning luncheons and special events. Winters were spent in Bonita Springs, Florida, where she and Carl enjoyed friendships on both the golf course and bocci ball courts at Vasari Country Club.

A dedicated Nona, Lucille never missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren at their sporting events and extracurricular activities. Her motto, "Live for Today," was more than just a saying. It was a way of life that she embraced fully. One of Lucille's favorite things was to call her kids and grandchildren to tell them to look at the moon. This simple act of sharing a moment of beauty and wonder earned her the affectionate nickname, "The Moon Lady." She found happiness in the little things and shared that joy with those she loved.

Lucille's passion for cooking and entertaining made every gathering a special occasion with delicious food and always enough to feed an army! She made everyone feel welcome, extending her warmth and hospitality to all who crossed her path. Lucille found joy in decorating, particularly during the holidays. Her home was always adorned with beautifully arranged decorations. In addition to her many talents, Lucille had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, which was another way that she made her house a home.

Lucille is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Carl Hanson; their daughters, Darlene (Jason) Crooks of Sandusky and Heather (Ryan) Feeney of Huron; grandchildren she was the proud Nona to, Taylor, Collin, and Casey Crooks and Nicholas and Natalie Feeney; two brothers, Michael (Mary) Malone of Mentor and Carl (Nena) Malone of Bainbridge; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marie Malone; sister, Antoinette Malone.

Lucille's unwavering love for her family and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Lucille's kindness and most beautiful smile will continue to inspire and guide us… to the moon and back.

Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, where we will celebrate Lucille's remarkable life. Throughout her illness, Lucille and her family received extraordinary support from amazing caregivers and organizations.

I am so upset. I can't believe Lu is gone. I am sending love to Carl and Darlene and Heather and the grandchildren. We talked about our grandchildren most of the time. Lu and I have been friends for over 70 years. She was as close as a sister. My love and condolences to the whole family.
