Nancy Freitas Obituary

Nancy Lou Freitas

Jul 19, 1929 - Sep 26, 2024

Huron

HURON - Nancy L. Freitas, 95, of Huron, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, in her home. Nancy was born July 19, 1929, in Leipsic. Nancy attended Lima Shawnee school until her father enlisted in the Navy, during World War II. He was assigned to Key West Naval base, and the family followed soon after. Nancy finished school at Key West High and remained friends with some of her classmates into her 90s. Nancy met her future husband, Jack E. Freitas, while they both attended Bowling Green State University. Nancy and Jack were married in Key West, Florida, and had their honeymoon in Cuba. They moved to various cities and school systems before permanently settling in Huron, with their four children.

John Freitas preceded his parents in death in 1999.

Nancy is survived by children, Laurie (John) Flickinger, Tom (Julie) Freitas, Lisa Freitas and her life partner, Mark Majoy. Nancy was blessed with eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Nancy shared a special friendship with her neighbors, Kathy and Tom Kirby.

Nancy worked as a Huron school secretary all her adult working years. Many Huron residents remember Mrs. Freitas as the principal's long-time secretary. In retirement, she spent winters in Florida and was the club golf champion three times. Nancy was a member of the Huron United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed her fellow Methodist friends. Nancy Freitas lived a full, rewarding life filled with family, friends, and love. Her children will plan a celebration of life with family and close friends.

I worked with Nancy at the high school for many years we became close friends. She was one of a kind.. she greeted every one of the high school with her famous smile and conversation I always admired that about her. We attended many conferences together some overnight and we had such a good time I will remember all the memories we shared over the years. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Mrs. Freitas - just like everyone in her family - was the best. So sorry, Laurie, but also so happy that you had her (and she you) for so long.
