Patricia Suzanne (Runkle) "Pat" Van Dootingh, 92, residing in Clyde, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at home after a lengthy illness.
Patricia was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Sandusky, to Sid and Viola (Robinson) Runkle.
She was employed as a bookkeeper at Homberger Trucking. Patricia was a lifelong member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, where she served on the consistory, sang in the choir, and headed up fundraisers of luncheons and coffee cake sales. Pat's most cherished moments were her times with her family and her deepest sadness was when they would leave to return home after visits. She took immense pleasure in all her grandchildren, being with them from soon after birth, babysitting, and attending their events. She maintained lifelong friendships with her girls club of ladies from high school and she and her husband, John, with their Card club, which both met monthly. Her home was a place where family and friends loved to congregate.
Patricia is survived by her children, Sue Lindsley, Jodi (Lee) Jackson, Jeff (Diana) Van Dootingh, and Scott (Lisa) Van Dootingh; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Sally Brennan; and brother, Tom (Sandy) Runkle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Robert Van Dootingh Sr.; son, John Robert Van Dootingh Jr; brother, Bill Runkle; and sister, Peg Kaufman.
Visitation for friends will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Patricia's funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the funeral home with son-in-law, Lee Jackson, presiding. Burial will follow at Castalia Cemetery.
