He was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Clinton Township, Michigan, and graduated from Lakeshore High School in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Robert completed his undergraduate work from Michigan State University and earned his Law degree from University of Detroit. He married Helene Himmelein on June 6, 1953, and they were together 40 years until her death Sept. 4, 1993. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and worked as The Friend of the Court of Macomb County, Michigan, for 32 years.

He was a member of Kelleys Island Zion United Methodist Church, Kelleys Island Historical Association, former president of Kelleys Island Landowners Association, and Mt. Clemens Rotary Club. Bob loved spending time with his family and staying informed with all of his grandchildren's lives. In 1976, he and Helene undertook the renovation of her family's 117-year old home, the Himmelein House, on Kelleys Island. For over 50 years, he loved sitting on his front porch with a good book or a 4:00 martini in hand.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcy (Michael Sr.) Mielke; son, Robert (Ann) Coulon Jr.; grandchildren, Marlana (Justin) Monak, Michael (Mariya) Mielke Jr., Mallory (Harris) Eide, and Robert (Kyrsten) Coulon III; and great-grandson, Brandon Coulon.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Helene (Himmelein) Coulon; parents, Irving and Elvira (Schultz) Coulon; sister, Joan Lowe; and numerous close relatives.
