William C. Zimmerman, 69, residing in Sandusky, succumbed to cancer after a 14-month battle Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, at Stein Hospice Care Center.

William was born Aug. 7, 1955, in Sandusky to the late Edward Gottlieb and Claudine Edna (Yeager) Zimmerman.

William graduated from Sandusky High School in 1973 and then graduated from Career Academy of Broadcast in 1974. He was employed as a mail carrier, worked in the kitchen at Demma's restaurant, and worked at WLEC as an air radio personality for 14 years, in addition to being a color commentator and stat keeper for local high school games for 49 years. He was the manager of The Milan Drive Thru, worked three video stores in Norwalk, Port Clinton and Sandusky owned by Herb Taylor, WSPD Toledo radio commentary and on air personality, a fraud investigator for Erie County Job & Family Services. William was the president of Ohio Council Welfare fraud (O.C.O.W.F),and president of the Erie County Humane Society and was instrumental in increasing membership by implementing the CARD pet placement program. In his spare time, he was an avid traveler especially, Las Vegas and enjoyed the shows, scenery, slots & buffets, he was also a Cleveland sports fan, reading, and loved animals and fed squirrels daily.

William is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Zimmerman, whom he married June 18, 1983, in Las Vegas. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy (Tom) Lazzara; two brothers, Mike Zimmerman and Ralph (Linda) Zimmerman; best friend since boyhood, Craig Fitz, who made his Christmas every year making road trips to cut a live tree!; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Private family burial will take place at a later date. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory will be assisting the family with arrangements.

Charlotte and Family, I am saddened to learn of Bill's passing. We worked together for several years at ECHS and had more fun than anyone should have in the workplace. Bill was humble, gentle, knowledgeable about most things, and wonderful sense of humor. We felt as though we knew you, Charlotte - as his adoration for you was clear. Bill will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences.

As we say goodbye to Bill.... I wish to say that he treated his friends like family and they reciprocated. The world was a much brighter place with him in it and we know he is now broadcasting from above. Your cat, Melissa Marie is still looking for you to come home...
